Special Presentation
Art at First Blush
by Dan Hill
September 11, , 2020
7:30 P.M.
Where do people typically look, in what order, and for how long in viewing a photograph? The largest study ever done involving eye tracking and art can help to provide some answers! Also to be covered in this highly unique lecture that explores people’s unconscious response to art, how people feel about what they’re seeing thanks to using facial coding to capture and analyze affective responses.
About Dan Hill
Dan Hill, PhD, has had a fascination with art since his exposure to Rembrandt as a boy living in Europe. This lecture and the Q & A to follow will explore topics like the power of faces, what kinds of composition often work best, and people’s reactions to color, implied motion, and the types of art-work titles that elicit the most pleasure.
Besides being the author of First Blush: People’s Intuitive Reactions to Famous Art, Dan is the author of seven other books including Emotionomics, chosen by Advertising Age as one of the top 10 must-read books of 2009 and featuring a foreword by Sam Simon, co-creator of The Simpsons. He is the holder of seven U.S. patents related to facial coding. Dan has frequently been on national TV including Good Morning America on ABC and The Today Show on NBC and was the subject of a front-page profile in The New York Times. He’s spoken to audiences in over 25 countries and is looking forward to talking to this audience from his wife’s hometown of Chicago!
