Competition Rules
Overview:
- The Fort Dearborn-Chicago International Competition is open to
professional and nonprofessional photographers 18 years of age or older.

- Images are submitted in 5 categories.
You may submit the same image to more than one category, but an
entry fee will be charged for each as a separate submission.

- Winning images will be selected by a panel of judges.

- The 30 winning images will be exhibited at Morpho Gallery in Chicago, and
awarded other prizes as listed.
Each image must have the size for upload as described on the How to enter page.
Judging and Awards:
All judges vote on all images. They do not see the names of the entrants at the time of judging. Judges rank images in order of preference, with each rank having a certain number of points. The image with the most points in each category is the First Place winner for that category. The image with the most points overall is the Photographer of the Year winner.
After the First Place and Photographer of the Year awards are determined, the next 25 images with the highest points over all will be awarded Merit of Excellence.
Deadlines:
- You may create your account at any time while the competition is open.
- Images may be submitted beginning January 13, 2010.
- Early-bird entry fee discounts end on February 15, 2010.
- The last day for submitting images is April 15, 2010.
- Judging will take place after all photos have been submitted.

-Awards will be announced by the end of the second week in May, 2010.

-Winners will submit their high resolution images (16” x 20” @250 ppi) to The Lab by Apollo by May 17, 2010. All prints in exhibit will be the same size 16x20. If the image does not fit the 16 x 20 proportion, winners will be asked to crop the image or add borders to fit this format.

-Winners will send an email with print sale price information for the Gallery Exhibit to fortd47@gmail.com by May 24, 2010.

-The 30 winning images will be exhibited at the Morpho Gallery in June, 2010.

-Opening reception date is June 4, 2010.

-Winners must pick up their prints (if not sold) at Morpho Gallery on July 8-10, 2010 during gallery hours. Winners may have their prints shipped to them by notifying Fort Dearborn and including a check for the appropriate amount by July 16th.

-Shipping and handling cost for shipping to be determined.

-Prints not picked up or shipped to the winner will become the property of Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum.
Rights in Images; Limitations of Liability; Indemnification:
Use of Images; Grant of Rights.
By entering the Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum International Photography Competition 2010, you represent and warrant that you own exclusive copyright of the images submitted.
Fort Dearborn - Chicago Photo Forum acknowledges that you, as author of the image, retain ownership of the image copyright.
You warrant that you are solely responsible for obtaining all consents required for submitted images, including consents of the subjects of such images, and you are not
infringing on the copyrights, trademarks, patents, or intellectual property rights of any third party.
You agree that your photographs may be reproduced for the purpose of marketing and promoting of Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum competitions without any payment by us of any kind. You agree to allow your submitted images to be reproduced on Fort Dearborn-
Chicago Photo Forum’s website and in third-party publications (printed and electronic)
for the purpose of promoting the work, photographer, and the competition or for educational purposes.
If you win, you agree that Morpho Gallery can sell the 16x20 winning award print at the price
that you provide. (See Gallery Exhibit under Awards for details.) If a price is not provided, a minimum price, to be determined, will be designated by Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum and Morpho Gallery.
Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum has the right to reject and remove any entry that may be considered a criminal offense or violate any law.
Limitations of liabilities and damages. Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum, and its members, directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, licensors, suppliers, service providers, and licensees shall not be responsible for, nor be liable for, any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, punitive or other damages arising out of or relating in any way to the competition, however caused, on any theory of liability, including contract or tort (including negligence or professional errors and omissions) and even if Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum has been advised of the possibility of such damages. To the maximum extent allowed by law, disclaimers, waivers and limitations contained herein shall apply notwithstanding any failure of essential purpose of any limited remedy.
If any part of this limitation of liability is found to be invalid or unenforceable for any reason, then the aggregate liability of Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum under such circumstances for liabilities that otherwise would have been limited shall not exceed the lowest limitation of liability allowed by law, or in the event such amount is not prescribed by law, one hundred dollars ($100)
Indemnification. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum and its members, directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, licensors, suppliers, service providers and licensees, from and against all losses, expenses, damages and costs, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising from: (1) any breach by you of these competition rules: (II) any breach of any representation, warranty, or covenant made you herein.
